Launching at the British Embassy
British Congolese Business Group (BCBG) is this new chamber of commerce for the promotion of ethical Congolese-British business. Its launch took place on Monday, October 7, 2019 in Kinshasa, during a meeting organized in collaboration with Ambassador John Murton.
« We are a platform that brings together British and Congolese investors and/or economic operators interested in working together ethically for ethical development. We will exchange, meet with institutions because we believe that BCBG must establish the appropriate framework for its members (companies) to prosper and actively participate in the development of the DRC. », said President Marie-Chantal Kaninda.
Boosting trade
BCBG aims to strengthen business links between Congolese and British economic operators, to intensify trade and partnerships between companies from the two countries and to promote the sharing of Congolese-British business opportunities.
If Brexit makes the United Kingdom autonomous from the European Union, it turns out to be an opportunity to be seized by African countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo.According to Marie Chantal Kaninda, the Congolese private sector is positioning itself and launching itself by breaking down certain barriers, including that of language, to envisage, with its British counterpart, a win-win partnership..
In this perspective, the challenge for the DRC consists, according to Ambassador John Murton, in improving governance and further cleaning up the business climate. This has the advantage of reassuring British investors who, until recently, expressed concerns.Insurance-promoting reforms
The business environment in the Democratic Republic of Congo is undergoing major reforms, the first results of which bring hope and reassurance not only to Congolese economic operators but also to foreigners.
« It is possible to do business properly and have the support of the DRC in all areas. Beyond certain measures already in place, we have developed, at the level of the National Agency for the Promotion of Investments (ANAPI), a series of tools including the one called the Investor’s Journey. It gives clear indications on what an investor should normally do to undertake», reassured the general director of ANAPI, Anthony Nkinzo.Among these reforms, he cited that of the Creation of Companies, a considerable step forward whose process was supported in particular by Essor and DFID. Then, that of the reform on Cross-border Trade with the establishment of GUICE supported by France. Through this platform, the time and costs of services are beginning to be reduced.
The other incentive measure concerns taxation, of which the income tax (IBP) has seen a reduction from 40% to 30% in five years. According to Anthony Nkinzo, e-declarations have started since last year and the DRC is moving towards e-payments. This is in order to reduce human contact and accelerate the flow of activities..
The UK is the world's fifth largest economy, providing 0.7% of its $2.85 trillion GDP in bilateral and multilateral development assistance. It is the second largest stock of major investors in the world.Various Past Events
